USP-NF: Sodium Succinate

Assays of Sodium Succinate via 1H Benchtop qNMR: a Direct and Efficient Approach (2023)

Sodium succinate, sometimes called disodium succinate, is a common food and pharmaceutical additive derived from succinic acid. As a flavor enhancer, it is typically used to introduce or enhance umami flavors. In this application note, we demonstrate equivalency to the current USP-NF monograph assay method, which requires the use of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). This is done using benchtop quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance (qNMR) spectroscopy.
